🍁Autumn 2023

Welcome to our Autumn newsletter

A celebrated female in technology to hit the headlines recently was Mira Murati, the CTO of OpenAI.

Mira Murati

"...If we think that the answer of the model is incorrect, we can say, “Are you sure? I think actuallyâ€Ķ” And then the model has an opportunity to go back and forth with you, similar to how we would converse with another human." Mira Murati, Time Magazine

Mira Murati is currently the chief technology officer of OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research company that develops ChatGPT. She rose to prominence after the release of ChatGPT where she was widely celebrated by women in tech.

Murati joined OpenAI in 2018, later becoming its chief technology officer, where she leads the company's work on ChatGPT, Dall-E, and Codex. Her responsibilities include oversight of the company's research, product and safety teams. She is an advocate for the regulation of AI. Source: Wikipedia

Women at Ocado

We celebrate our female colleagues too here at Ocado Technology, and Carisa Lopez, one of our Business Support Specialists, has helped us highlight how diversity in technology is fundamental in producing high quality products and services:

“Throughout history, women have made notable contributions across diverse fields, including computing, programming, engineering, and more. In the contemporary landscape, the role of women in technology holds unparalleled significance." ... "Women offer distinct viewpoints, ingenuity, and adeptness in problem solving, which fuel innovation and extend the boundaries of possibility." ..."Celebrating the achievements of women in technology, who serve as a continual source of inspiration, has been a truly enriching experience... ” Carisa Lopez, Ocado

New features coming soon 🎉

We are looking for teaching and learning Volunteers to feedback on our new While Loop material to be released soon. We have two lesson plans that you can test for us here. The final sessions will be embedded in Rapid Router.

We are teaming up with CS in Schools

Earlier this year we got together with CS in Schools, a charity in Australia with a similar mission to us, to talk about how we can align Rapid Router to the Australian curriculum. We are excited to announce some new teaching material we will be testing this quarter in the UK and Australia. 🎉

Carisa Lopez - Business Support

"I hope to continue to inspire and encourage women and allies to get involved in the technology industry."

I am a Business Support Specialist in North America for Ocado. I work as a key player to support the operation of the site. As a woman without a technical background, I’ve had to learn and understand a basic level of technical operations by submerging myself in technology. I work on projects called BOT School, Peripheral school, and Safety Training. These activities are aimed at providing the necessary assistance to ensure smooth site operations and support for my team.

Gaining a foundational understanding of equipment, diverse software systems and achieving expertise in Google Suite has empowered me to constantly advocate for my team members. Furthermore, I can foster a sense of inclusion among my team onsite, which is essential for creating an environment conducive to attracting and retaining top talents.

What I enjoy most about my role is that it has pushed me to become innovative and think outside of the box to become a stronger professional, but the best part of my role is the ability to form a professional relationship with each of my team members onsite and getting to know them individually. I hope to continue to inspire and encourage women and allies to get involved in the technology industry.

Help us get more girls into technology by sharing our FREE resources.
