This newsletter, we have packed in resources for you to read, enjoy, and get involved with. We want to hear what you think is useful, and how we can make things easier to navigate. Alongside this, we celebrate Bett 2025, our Industry experience scheme and much more!
This month, we are working with some students from CS in Schools, as part of our Industry experience scheme. We have been shaping this scheme over the last year and it is proving to be a successful way for students to gain experience and mentoring from our core team, whilst helping to contribute to the product itself.
One of our engineering students is working on a UX task, and would like to receive some feedback on her work so far. Please take a minute to feed back here.
"Hi, Iâm Prisha, and Iâm a second-year Computer Science student at RMIT. Through my work with Code For Life, Iâve been focusing on improving the user experience for educators by relocating a key feature on the website to make it more accessible. Itâs been an incredible ongoing learning experience, especially with the guidance of my mentor, Laura, whose expertise and support have assisted me a lot. Iâm looking forward to hearing your feedback!"
Two other students from the scheme are also working on tasks. They have picked up development tasks and are being guided by Stefan, one of our Senior software engineers.
If you want to take a look behind the scenes, you can see the tickets on Github here and here.
On February 11th it is Safer Internet Day!
Technology is constantly changing and evolving. Especially now that AI is at the forefront of everyone's minds, a lot of new possibilities have been created for benevolent technologists and scammers alike. It is important to understand how these technologies work and how they can be used as well as abused, so you know how to detect and defend yourself from a scam.
Safer Internet Day provides resources, quizzes and tips to help educate people on the online risks that exist today. Find their resources here!
Check out our own Safety Online worksheet to learn about passwords and security.
We had a lovely time at St Francis de Sales school in London, UK, talking to the pupils about the technology at Ocado, and linking coding to robotics. After presenting in assembly, we delivered simultaneous workshops with year 2 pupils.
The kids had a great time and came up with some brilliant ideas including cooking robots, tickling robots, and even robots that went to school instead of them!
We have been working on for Python Den and would like would like to get your feedback on how useful they would be.
